At Union College, Miryam Moutillet created the Minor in Dance (2005), and established the dance program. Her minor included courses in history, choreography, and explorations in physical theater and films.
As a former ballerina with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, she kept her classical dance background at the forefront of the dancers' training. As a Montreal artist and the co-founder of La La La Human Steps, she kept on creating innovative spectacles for Union audiences.
From 2008-2022, she conceptualized and directed the original Winter Dance Shows. Each year, she also hosted a professional company for the Stephanie C. Davis Dance Residency (2009-2022) and a variety of guest artists for in class workshops. Biannually, she led the Bali mini-term that focused on the intensive study in dance and gamelan, the Balinese orchestra of gongs and xylophones in Indonesia.
In 2013, Mrs. Moutillet saw her dream come true with the construction of the Henle Dance Pavilion, a state-of-the art facility dedicated to dance and the program that flourished through the years.
As a choreographer, Miryam Moutillet likes to push boundaries and create works based on concepts that reveal human aspirations. As a teacher, she aims to conduct classes in diverse dance styles to emphasize the act of dancing. As a director, she explores the many possibilities of the performing arts, reaching for a contemporary vision of the world.
