Prof. Thomas K. Jewell Retires

Thomas K. Jewell, Carl B. Jansen Professor of Engineering retired after over 36 years of dedicated service, which included 12 years as chair. Prof. Jewell joined Union College in 1978. He earned his B.S. degree in 1968 from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point. He earned his M.S. in Environmental Engineering in 1974, and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 1980; both from the University of Massachusetts. Prof. Jewell is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York. Prior to his retirement, he served a three year term as the Director of Environmental, Science, Policy, and Engineering (ESPE). For many years, Prof. Jewell also served as the Director of the International Programs for Engineering where the programs expanded to many countries all over the world. Prof. Jewell intends to continue to be active in teaching and will offer selected courses to the ESPE students. He will also continue to teach the environmental engineering sessions in the Professional Engineering refresher course. Prof. Jewell likes skiing, boating, gardening, and home maintenance. He plans to travel and continue to be a program reviewer for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) where this takes him to many engineering schools nationally and across the globe.
