Project Summary:
The Study Abroad Collaboration project, “Brazil Faculty and Staff Development Trip,” is (co-)sponsored by the New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium, from an award by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This project will support the New York Six consortium’s mission to share expertise and resources while enhancing options for students, faculty, and staff. The trip to Sao Paulo, scheduled for early December 2015, will be an intensive international experience designed to support the Hobart and William Smith Colleges/Union College Partnership for Global Education (PGE) study abroad program. The goal of the project is to engage faculty and international programs staff from the New York Six consortium colleges with Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) University in Sao Paulo – the Brazil program site. The Brazil program has consistently been named as one of the top three study abroad opportunities of interest for undergraduates at each of the New York Six schools.
The development trip will enable faculty and staff to learn more about the program, gain a better understanding of the Brazilian culture, and develop valuable contacts and connections with FAAP to facilitate the educational experiences and enrichment activities of future programs. This project leverages the natural partnership and collaboration of our six peer institutions, linking the project coordinators with faculty and staff from across the consortium to promote this development trip and ultimately to enhance the Brazil program recruitment activities.
