MRI: Acquisition of a high-speed volumetric particle image velocimetry system for fluid mechanics research and research training in science, mathematics, and engineering
Principal Investigator: Ali Hamed, assistant professor for mechanical engineering; Co-Principal Investigators: Ann Anderson, Agnes S. MacDonald Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of Energy Studies; Bradford Bruno, professor of mechanical engineering; Steven Rice, professor of biology; and Joy Wang, associate professor of mathematics; Senior Personnel: Ashok Ramasubramanian, associate professor of mechanical engineering

This grant supports the acquisition of a high-speed volumetric particle image velocimetry (PIV) system for fluid mechanics research and research training in science, mathematics, and engineering. Findings of the research to be enabled with the new PIV system will be significant to a diverse range of fields of study, including improving environmental protection and restoration efforts, reducing drag and increasing efficiency, and determining the causes of congenital heart disorders.
