As a college long committed to undergraduate research, Union encourages its students to ask “why” and “how”. To achieve this we foster close working relationships between faculty and students, and students and faculty regularly collaborate on scholarship. Our approach has several benefits:
- Students develop a critical understanding of their field through learning the current state of knowledge.
- Students gain experience and confidence in asking the right questions to solve difficult problems.
- Students often have the satisfying experience of coauthoring publications and presenting at conferences.
There are many opportunities for shared student-faculty scholarship at Union! Our faculty are encouraging, and all of our research facilities are available to undergraduates. The Undergraduate Research Office funds this collaborative scholarship through Student Research Grants, the Summer Research Fellowship program, and Student Conference Travel Grants.
