John Myers
Bio
John Myers is the Catalog & Metadata Librarian, responsible for oversight of the Catalog Unit and its duties within the Technical Services Department of Schaffer Library. This work ranges from creating cataloging records, through developing policies and procedures for best using shared cataloging records, through maintaining quality of the catalog database, to transforming all of the above in the face of new developments in the wider cataloging environment.
John started working at Union in May 2001, after working at Amherst College in Massachusetts and the Charleston County Public Library in South Carolina. Prior to his library career, he was a commissioned officer in the United States Navy. He has served in various capacities for several years on ALA’s Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access (CC:DA), most recently as the Liaison from the MARBI Committee. He has conducted training across New York State on matters cataloging. He resides in Albany with his husband Christopher and their two cats.
